I Just Became a Christian — Now What?

faith · · new believer, salvation, first steps, beginner, baptism

If you've recently decided to follow Jesus — welcome. This is the beginning of the most important relationship of your life. You probably have a lot of questions. That's completely normal.

Here's a simple roadmap for your first steps.

What Just Happened?

When you put your trust in Jesus, several things happened:

Your First Steps

1. Read the Bible

Start with the Gospel of John. Read one chapter a day. Don't worry about understanding everything — just get to know Jesus.

2. Pray

Prayer is simply talking to God. Thank Him. Ask Him questions. Tell Him what you're struggling with. There are no rules about how long or how formal it needs to be.

3. Find a Church

Look for a church that teaches the Bible, welcomes questions, and practices genuine community. It doesn't have to be perfect — no church is.

4. Get Baptized

Baptism is your public declaration that you've decided to follow Jesus. It's one of the first things Jesus commands for new believers (Matthew 28:19). Talk to a pastor about this.

5. Tell Someone

Share your decision with someone you trust. Faith grows when it's shared.

What to Expect

A Prayer for the Journey

Jesus, thank You for finding me. I don't fully understand everything yet, but I know I want to follow You. Guide my steps. Surround me with people who will help me grow. And when I stumble, remind me that Your love never changes. Amen.
